Counselling & Focused Psychological Services (FPS)

Marumali Consultations provide focused psychological strategies through the Better Access Initiative. Referred persons may be eligible for up to ten individual sessions and ten group sessions of evidence–based psychological services through this program. These sessions are bulk-billed.

 

FPS are a range of brief- to medium- term therapeutic interventions that have been shown to be useful in the management and treatment of depression, anxiety and suicide risk. FPS therapies include:

 

  • Psycho-education (including motivational interviewing);

  • Cognitive-behavioural therapy including: behavioural interventions, behavioural modifications, behavioural techniques, activity scheduling, cognitive interventions and cognitive therapy;

  • Relaxation strategies including: muscle relaxation and controlled breathing techniques;

  • Skills training including: problem solving, anger management, social skills training, stress management, parenting guidance and communication techniques;

  • Interpersonal therapy; and

  • Narrative therapies (for consideration when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients).

 

Private Psychological Services

 

Individuals may access private psychological services through Marumali Consultations. Services provided are confidential and based on a supportive, culturally appropriate assessment and counselling approach to facilitate improved holistic wellbeing for those of diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.  These services are billed to the client.

  • Issues of substance use and misuse

  • Intergenerational and trans–generational trauma

  • Wider social and emotional well-being complexities
